| THE DIAMOND QUEEN DVD (OPEN FORMAT FOR WORLDWIDE USE) |
|
Andrew Marr looks at the life and reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates her Diamond Jubilee – 60 years as Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Speaking to the people that really know her best, Marr is granted unique access to Princes William and Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, the Earl of Wessex, the Duke of York, the Princess Royal, David Cameron, Tony Blair and President Obama.
The series looks at the day-to-day life of a Queen who is clearly dedicated to her family and her country and reflects on the personal and political challenges Her Majesty has faced, including coming to the throne as a 25-year-old, the annus horribilis of 1992 and the wedding of her grandson, William, in 2011. With his customary insight and wit, Andrew Marr discovers the hidden side of our most enduring – and enigmatic – monarch, who has outlasted Prime Ministers and Presidents, and has adapted and modernised to ensure the Royal Family is relevant and vital in the 21st century. In fact, they regularly throw open their doors to tour bus parties for tea and a tour of their royal bounty. And in the United States, we get a glimpse of the glamorous world of Pat, a high-end collector whose haul of royal collectables includes some of Princess Diana’s dazzling gowns.
Royally Astounding – 30 Defining Days of the Monarchy: When Charles and Diana said “I Do” in front of the millions of adoring public that heady summer morning in 1981, no one could have predicted the twists, turns, triumphs and tragedies that would challenge them in the years to come.
This is a fascinating story of how one of the most well-known and powerful families in the world exposed its vulnerabilities, and stood on the brink of disaster before making changes that meant that they could survive and forever continue to thrive. Now, with the Queen entering her diamond jubilee year 'Royally Astounding: 30 Defining Days of the Monarchy' holds up a magnifying glass and focuses in on 30 key dates from the Great British Royal family’s reign over the last 30 years, the good and the bad, that has ensured a many-centuries-old institution can “Keep Calm And Carry On”.
The Changing Face of The Queen: Her face has been on the UK’s stamps and money for nearly 60 years, and over 20 million people worldwide tune in to her Christmas Day speech every year. Having lived through and indeed been at the heart of some of the most dramatic events of the 20th and 21st century: the Second World War, the end of the British Empire, the death of Diana, Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most iconic women in the world. This film tells the story of an international icon. Featuring interviews with those who know the Queen best, including her couturier, her hairdresser, photographers, historians and the editor of American Vogue, 'The Changing Face Of The Queen' tells all the most important stories of the Queen’s life as never heard before. Using stunning archive footage this special also finds the answers to questions such as what’s in the Queen’s handbag? What happens to the clothes when she doesn’t wear them any more? Does she ever wear trousers? How does she get her hair like that? And how much does the Queen’s wardrobe cost? Making The Changing Face Of The Queen a must-have for all admirers of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Royal Wedding In Colour: HRH Princess Elizabeth & Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten:
This amazing film of the Royal Wedding was shot by the late Jack Cardiff, a pioneer cameraman working with the then new Technicolor process in the 1940s. It contains never-before-seen footage in full colour of the processions at Westminster Abbey and afterwards at Buckingham Palace of the wedding of HRH Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in the autumn of 1947. This ‘lost’ film becomes available now due to the fact that a copy was given by Jack Cardiff to his friend Ralph Pulley, who worked at Technicolor after the war. It has remained in the Pulley family ownership ever since and its importance was only realised when a conversation took place between Ralph’s daughter and Stanley F Mazur, film producer and owner of Celtic Arrow Media. This film has not been digitally enhanced, the footage and soundtrack are as on the original and it provides a wonderful reminder of the times and people involved in this momentous event.
Running time: 160 minutes.
